Access to Building Services Engineering

Course Overview

Need some practical experience to make a career decision? These one year introductory qualifications cover four areas of Building Services Engineering:

  • Plumbing
  • Electrotechnical
  • Heating and ventilating
  • Refrigeration and air conditioning

You'll find out what you enjoy and get a head start on your next qualification - helping you move on to a career.

This qualification is for people thinking about a career in buildings services engineering, perhaps working within the air conditioning industry or as an electrician or a plumber. You might be a young learner in full time education or an adult.

Each unit has an emphasis towards a recognized building services qualification:

  • 101 Understand and demonstrate fundamental safe working practices in Building Services Engineering.
  • 102 Understand fundamental environmental protection measures within Building Services Engineering.
  • 103 Understand fundamental scientific principles within Building Services Engineering. 
  • 104 Introduction to Building Services Engineering. 
  • 105 Understand and demonstrate fundamental refrigeration and air conditioning operations.
  • 106 Understand and demonstrate fundamental electrical installation operations.
  • 107 Understand and demonstrate fundamental heating and ventilating operations.
  • 108 Understand and demonstrate fundamental plumbing operations.

Duration:One year | Qualification: C&G | Level: Level 1

Delivery

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom and workshop activities.

Assessment is carried out through continuous assessment of practical activities, practical  assessments, written assignments and computer based assessments.

Requirements

No formal qualifications are required for entry, however all applicants will be interviewed as part of the selection process.

During the interview academic grades and results of an aptitude test are considered prior to recommending an appropriate level.

No skills or experience are necessary prior to commencing the course.

Progression

Successful students can progress to Level 2 PEO or an apprenticeship in plumbing or gas provided they have secured a work placement

All students are required to supply the necessary equipment to enable them to commence /complete classroom and workshop activities, these include:

  • Stationary
  • Overalls
  • Boots
  • Safety glasses
  • Tape measure
  • Padlock (for locker)
