This course is suitable for semi-skilled workers and apprentices across manufacturing and engineering environments, though suitable for a variety of industries, or anyone responsible for contributing to quality and process improvements in the workplace.

  • Prepare and carry out a personal development plan, with particular emphasis on management style and on working with others
  • Analyse information, make a recommendation and present it effectively

The aim of this unit is to develop knowledge and understanding of coaching and training as required by a practising first line manager. On completion of this unit, delegates will understand:

  • How to coach an individual in the workplace
  • Training appropriate to the workplace
  • How to utilise knowledge of training styles to identify suitable development opportunities.

Communication between customers and colleagues is vital to ensure that an effective relationship is formed. Customers and colleagues will expect information to be issued at every stage of a transaction. This course aims to develop and enhance an understanding of the different types of communication methods within an organisation, and highlight how these methods contribute towards improving customer relations.

This programme is suitable if you are a practising senior leader/manager or work in a training and development role and you already have some experience of coaching and mentoring. It will equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as a coach/mentor as part of your leadership or management role in either the public or private sector.

The ILM Level 7 Award in Executive Management has been specifically desgined to give practising or potential senior managers critical evaluative skills for their formal development in this role.

It is aimed at developing the senior management skills and knowledge required at this level. The mandatory unit, Making Informed Decisions, examines different decision making strategies and their uses - assessing their relative strengths and weaknesses. Participants then research and employ appropriate strategies in an area relevant to their role.

By the end of the programme you will:

  • Understand a range of decision strategies and their use
  • Use appropriate decision strategies
  • Review the causes of change, strategies for change and the effects of change on organisations
  • Justify an appropriate leadership strategy to enable an identified change

The ILM Level 3 qualification in Facilities Management has been specially designed to help learners develop specific skills in facilities management alongside a wide range of leadership and management skills.

The Certificate in Facilities Management builds and broadens the skills and knowledge gained in a Management role. Learners complete four mandatory units and further optional units. Learners are guided to choose from a diverse range of optional units to build their qualification. A Facilities Management NVQ offers a range of units covering services such as building maintenance, energy management, resource management, environmental protection, procurement, security, reception and customer care. The City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Facilities Management is aimed at those:

  • undertaking a Facilities Management apprenticeship
  • performing first line management roles in facilities management and wish to develop and enhance their skills and knowledge
  • recently appointed to a Facilities Management role
  • working in supervisory role that wish to progress to a more senior position.

The ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management is a qualification that has been specifically designed to give practising or aspiring first line managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager.

The Award is a concise qualification which gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required by today’s first line manager. The mandatory unit ‘Solving Problems and Making Decisions’ is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and making decisions from gathering and interpreting information through the effective communication of outcomes.

On completion of the mandatory unit for the Award, delegates will know how to:

  • Describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact
  • Gather and interpret information to solve a problem
  • Identify possible options available
  • How to effectively present a case supported by facts and evidence

Specific additional benefits in relation to skill and knowledge gained will depend upon the optional units chosen.

The Award is a concise qualification designed to develop basic middle management skills and knowledge.

Upon completion of this Award, learners will be able to:

  • Gain an understanding of their organisation in relation to its purpose and its stakeholders
  • Appreciate the role of the manager in achieving goals
  • Explain the effect of communication and interpersonal relationships on managerial performance
  • Identify how to critically assess own knowledge, skills and attributes to address development opportunities.

Furthermore, learners can choose from a wide range of subjects to choose suitable optional units to meet their specific needs and requirements.

The mandatory unit M4.01 ‘Understanding the management role’ (credit value of 4) examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance. The final element of the unit explores the evaluation of personal development opportunities.

Candidates will then need to choose optional units, which make up a total minimum credit value of 10 upon successful completion of associated assignments.

In order to gain the CMI Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Management, candidates will need to complete all mandatory Units to a credit value of 14.

They will also be required to complete optional units to a minimum credit value of 11 from a range of titles, including those from the list below:

  • Implement change in own area of responsibility (6)
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders (3)
