Students must undertake eight hours' placement as support in a basic skills setting.

This course is suitable for those who are involved in NVQ assessing and require a recognised qualification.

As an assessor you will be required to complete three units:

  • Understand the principles and practices of assessment:

The aim of this unit is to assess the learning and development practitioner’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of assessment.

  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment:

The aim of this unit is to assess a learning and development practitioner’s performance in carrying out assessments of occupational competence in a work environment.

  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding:

The aim of this unit is to assess the learning and development of practitioner’s performance in carrying out the assessment of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside of the work environment.

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will: 

  • Understand assessment requirements and develop realistic assessment plans for learning and assessing candidates.
  • Support candidates to access fair, safe, valid and reliable assessment in line with relevant legislation.
  • Use a variety of assessment methods in different situations.
  • Know how to use standardisation and internal quality assurance procedures to enhance assessment skills.

Candidates will need to compile a portfolio of evidence to prove their competence as an assessor. Course participants will be supplied with an outline portfolio which they then prepare and work on during taught sessions and fully complete when assessing at least three candidates.

Communication between customers and colleagues is vital to ensure that an effective relationship is formed. Customers and colleagues will expect information to be issued at every stage of a transaction. This course aims to develop and enhance an understanding of the different types of communication methods within an organisation, and highlight how these methods contribute towards improving customer relations.

This is a qualification to deliver basic skills to adults. It covers six modules starting in September and finishing in June.

Students have to undertake a minimum of 15 hours delivery in a basic skills setting, they also must have a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English.

Assessment is through assignments and placement observations.

This course is suitable for qualified Assessors who hold the D awards, A1 or the Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement. Assessors who want to progress to the role of IV in their department and need a recognised IV qualification.

This course aims to provide underpinning knowledge and understanding, relating to the internal quality assurance of the assessment process. Candidates will also be supported to utilise this knowledge by completing a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their competence as an Internal Verifier.

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will have gained a nationally recognised qualification which will enable learners to work as a qualified Internal Verifier.

This is a new QCF qualification which is suitable for Internal Verifiers that Lead the Internal Quality Assurance within their area of work or as part of their CPD aspire to gain a qualification in this field. 

This course aims to provide underpinning knowledge and understanding, relating to the internal quality assurance of the assessment process, incorporating management theories.  Focusing on planning, allocating and monitoring work in own area of responsibility.  This qualification will be suitable for verifiers who have a Lead IV responsibility and who have already completed the verifier qualification.  

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will have gained a nationally recognised qualification linked to their job role. Or Internal Verifiers who as part of their CPD wish to gain a further qualification in this field.  

This course is offered in partnership with the University of Wales, Newport. The aim of this course is to deepen your understanding of your role as a Classroom/ Teaching Assistant or Education Support Officer within Secondary and Further Education.

The Level 3 Literacy module feeds into the Delivery of Basic Skills 9375 course. It  is an ‘add on’ qualification where the student has completed the full qualification in numeracy and joins the course to do literacy.

It comprises 15 hours placement in a literacy setting plus a literacy assignment.

This qualification is designed for team leaders and managers, to support the development of their skills and competences in leading a team, making sure that the team’s work achieves organisational objectives. Also, that team leaders and managers develop their skills in making contributions to planning, problem solving and decision making.

On completion of this qualification you will know how to: 

  • Manage own professional development within an organisation
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Plan and allocate and monitor work of a team

There will also be opportunities for students to gain knowledge of:  

  • Provide leadership and direction for own area of responsibility
  • Manage or support equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility
  • Implement change in own area of responsibility
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders

This qualification is designed for managers, to support the development of their leadership and management skills in personal development, leadership, management resources, information, performance, customer and market awareness.

On completion of this qualification you will know how to: 

  • Develop and evaluate operational plans for own area of responsibility
  • Provide leadership and direction for own area of responsibility
  • Plan change effectively
  • Work productively with colleagues and stakeholders

There will also be opportunities for students to gain knowledge of:  

  • Promote equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion across an organisation
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other organisations
  • Manage health and safety across an organisation
  • Monitor and review business processes
  • Develop a customer-focused organisation

  • Lead innovation within an organisation
  • Manage a budget for own area or activity of work

The aim of this unit is to develop knowledge and understanding of managing conflict and supporting individuals as required by a practising first line manager.

On completion of this unit, delegates will know how to:

  • Identify causes of conflict at work
  • Describe the stages in the development of conflict
  • Explain the effects of conflict on individual and team performance at work

This Qualification replaces the popular CIEH Professional Trainer Certificate (PTC)

This course is suitable for those who are involved or are aspiring to be involved in the design and delivery of training programmes in the future. It is ideal for anyone who needs to either understand the basics of training practice, or wants to refine their training techniques. Those who have never delivered training before will find it an ideal basis for their future training activities.

This qualification is essential for those who wish to become CIEH registered trainers.

This qualification extends the content of basic training techniques by encouraging a dynamic and flexible approach to training delivery, taking into account some of the recent advances in accelerated learning and Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP). However, it is still founded on a basic short-course training programme that is delivered in four days, with an assessment based on delivery of a short training session at the conclusion of the programme. 

At the conclusion of the programme, the expected learning outcomes are that the student will: 

  • Be able to match training sessions to the ability and needs of the students
  • Understand how to set SMART training objectives and how to secure learners’ commitment to achieving them
  • Be aware of the factors that influence learning and use a simple but effective structure for recognising and accommodating different learning preferences in any training situation
  • Be able to select different and diverse training methods appropriately to meet different needs
  • Be able to design training sessions by carrying out effective planning and preparation
  • Be able to use a variety of different ways of communication information and making training more accessible and interesting to students
  • Be able to use feedback and evaluation to ensure a process of continuous improvement
  • Understand a variety of different ways of assessing the effectiveness of training and measuring results
