Entry requirements

This is a guide only. Students would normally be expected to achieve the following minimum entry qualifications.

Entry level e.g. Vocational Access course
There are no formal entry requirements.

Level 1 e.g. Diploma in Creative Industries
A number of GCSEs at D-G grades or above.

Level 2 e.g. Diploma, Extended Certificate, Certificate
One GCSE at grade C, supported by a number at grade D or above.

Level 3 e.g. AS courses
Seven GCSEs at grade C, preferably including English and maths [if this has not been achieved at school a committment to enrol on GCSE maths and English at college will be required if it's your intention to go on to higher education.]

Or e.g. Extended Diploma, Diploma, Subsidiary Diploma, Certificate
Five GCSEs at grade C.

Level 3/4 e.g. Foundation Diploma in Art and Design
Five GCSEs grade C or above or one A level supported by three GCSEs grade C and above or a BTEC National Diploma. All students should be over 18 and present a portfolio of artwork at interview.

Apprenticeship routes
If you are applying for an apprenticeship, you should demonstrate a commitment to a career in the area.

Certain subjects/courses may require specific GCSEs at grade C or above and these are indicated within subject/course information. When entry requirements are not met, but there are special circumstances, each application will be considered on individual merit.

Additional assessments
Some courses will also have an assessment as part of the interview process [e.g. Level 2 plumbing courses.]

Progression through the levels
In most instances, students who achieve a course at one level can move onto the next level in that subject area.
