Information for parents

Support while at college
We have a number of consultation evenings to give you the opportunity to discuss your son or daughter’s progress. You must make an appointment to ensure that you talk to the relevant team member. Student progress reports are sent out to parents during the year.

If you have any concerns about your son or daughter you can contact their Personal Tutor, Faculty Tutor or Dean of Faculty. In addition to the Personal Tutor system your son or daughter has access to a range of services to support them during their time at college. The Student Services team can help with a range of support issues including funding advice, careers guidance, course advice and counselling.

Changing/leaving course
If your son or daughter is unhappy with their course/subject choices they must discuss this with their Personal Tutor. They will be able to advise on the best course of action. If your son or daughter changes their programme without consultation with their Personal Tutor this could result in a change of status from full to part time and this could impact on their funding support.

Exams
Students are responsible for entering for exams at college. Entry dates are advertised throughout the college well in advance of the deadlines. A fee is charged for late entry. Your son or daughter’s Course Tutor will have entry forms.

Examination entry costs and registration fees are free for the first sitting in college. However if your son or daughter does not sit an exam or leaves the college after they have entered for an exam, you or your son or daughter will be expected to pay these costs. There is also a charge for resitting examinations.

Student Absence Procedure
The college recognises that students will, on occasion, be absent. Frequent absences could result in the student falling behind with their studies. In cases of genuine illness the college will do all it can to support the student.

If the absences are not genuine the student may be subject to the Student Disciplinary Procedure and any funding may be affected. The college has a Student Absence Procedure for students studying on full time courses.

Report an absence.
