First Line Management - Award

Course Overview:

The ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management is a qualification that has been specifically designed to give practising or aspiring first line managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager.

The Award is a concise qualification which gives an introduction to the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required by today’s first line manager. The mandatory unit ‘Solving Problems and Making Decisions’ is designed to develop practical techniques for tackling managerial problems and making decisions from gathering and interpreting information through the effective communication of outcomes.

On completion of the mandatory unit for the Award, delegates will know how to:

  • Describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact
  • Gather and interpret information to solve a problem
  • Identify possible options available
  • How to effectively present a case supported by facts and evidence

Specific additional benefits in relation to skill and knowledge gained will depend upon the optional units chosen.

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring first line managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme – which is likely to be Level 2 Key Skills Literacy and Numeracy or their equivalent.

Course Delivery:

In order to achieve the ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management, delegates must complete the mandatory unit [M3.01 – two days – Solving Problems and Making Decisions] plus two other units:

  • M3.10 – 1 day – Introduction to leadership
  • M3.12 – 1 day – Motivating to maximise performance

The programme is delivered as a series of unitised workshops. Delegates are also required to attend a one-hour induction [contact Gower College Swansea for dates and availability] plus a two-hour tutorial support session [per delegate.]

Upon successful completion of the programme, delegates will be awarded the ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management.

Progression Opportunities:

Learners will have the opportunity to build on their qualification to achieve the Level 3 Certificate.

Additional Information:

Our team can boast a 100% pass rate for students completing the unit.

Excellent feedback has been forthcoming from students as to how they have implemented the skills they have learnt in the workplace and increased their competence and confidence in the leadership role.
