
Access to Art & Design
Course Overview
It is a one year course designed to develop students’ skills and understanding of 2D and 3D Art & Design and prepare them for progression onto Higher Education.
The course is normally studied full time over one yearn but learners may opt to follow the course part time over two years. However this part-time option does incur fees.

- Art & Design: Drawing Exploration - Life Studies

- Art & Design - Sculpture and Mixed Media
- Art & Design - Ceramics
- Studio Photography
- Portfolio Preparation
- Art & Design: Personal Project
Duration:34 weeks | Qualification: AGORED | Level: Level 3
Delivery
Students study a variety of Art & Design specialist disciplines. These include:
- Contextual Studies;
- Graphics;
- Photography;
- Drawing & Painting;
- Life Drawing;
- Sculpture & Ceramics.
Learners will also develop portfolio building skills and be supported with UCAS applications. All assessments are project based and are designed to develop and enhance a wide range of technical, creative and personal skills. There are core units in Application of Number, Communications and ICT. Successful completion of the course enables students to progress to a university of their choice.
Learners are supported by a Personal Tutor throughout the course.
Requirements
Applicants must be 19 years of age or over with an interest in Art & Design. Entry onto the course is subject to interview and all applicants will be required to bring a sample of their work to interview.
We welcome students from diverse backgrounds with a passion for Art & Design.
Progression
All students have the opportunity to apply for Higher Education courses in Art and Design. Opportunities are also given to the world of work. Career routes include: Fine Art, Illustration, Graphic Design, Photography, Sculpture, Ceramics.
Previous success stories have included employment in television, interior design, theatre design, professional photography, model makers, freelance artist, architectural illustrator, package designers etc

Additional costs:
Trips to galleries , museums, cultural centres - £45
Equipment - studio fees, contribution to essential art resources and upkeep of special equipment - £50
Books - at least 10 sketchbooks, 1 portfolio, sleeves and cards (A1), two presentation files (A3) - £80
Photographic paper and printing costs (Graphic and Photography work) - £20
Students can buy printing credits for the PCs and the Macs as and when necessary
