Course Overview
Do something creative with your life!
This course offers a sound introduction to a range of practical disciplines within art and design such as drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, graphics, photography and contextual references.
Everything that is visual surrounds us in our life - magazines, posters, fashion, accessories, furniture, interior design, packaging, advertising... and it all starts in art college with creative, imaginative hard working individuals.
Become an artist, craftsperson or designer and find yourself on a visually exciting journey. Study units include:
- Contextual References in Art and Design
- 2D and 3D Visual Communication
- Using Ideas to Explore, Develop and Produce art and design
- Working with Visual Art and Graphics briefs
- Building an Art and Design Portfolio
- Working in the Art and Design Industry
A personal tutor will guide you through the process during your time on the course and there is also support offered for individual learning needs where necessary.

Delivery
A team of specialist staff deliver units as themed assignments during the year.
Practical demonstrations along with discussions, group work, individual work, presentations and exhibitions will be carried out throughout the year. The work is assessed on inspirational sources for the themes, research of the themes, exploration and development of your ideas and final outcomes in 2D and 3D, with written notes alongside to support how you created and what you discovered from your explorations.
Continuous assessment from the team occurs throughout the year, during and after every assignment, with written and verbal feedback. Students will spend approximately 16.5 hours a week on the course.
Requirements
You must have a passion for art and design.
GCSEs: A-C in Art and Design preferred, alongside one C grade and four D grades in other subjects.
Equivalent qualifications (Level 1 Vocational Studies with Art content) will be accepted pending interview.
Progression
Students are able to progress to a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design, with a final grade of a Merit from their Level 2 Art and Design Diploma course.

Trips to galleries, museums, cultural centres - £45
Equipment - studio fee covers introductory art pack, contribution to essential art resources and upkeep of specialist equipment
Photographic paper and printing costs (Graphics and Photography work) - £20
Students can buy printing credits for the PCs and the Macs, as and when necessary
