
Caring for Children Introductory
Course Overview
Students will study a range of Childcare related units which will extend their understanding of working in this sector. Study units on this course are:
- Unit 1 Individual rights and responsibilities
- Unit 6 Communication skills with children
- Unit 8 Encouraging children to eat healthily
- Unit 9 Keeping children safe
- Unit 10 Valuing children as individuals
- Unit 11 Children’s learning through everyday experiences
- Unit 12 Physical activities for children
- Unit 16 Creative activities for young children
- Unit 18 Books, stories, poems and rhymes for children
- Unit 19 Caring for children – group project
This programme leads to a national qualification. It introduces you to an occupational area, enabling you to develop knowledge, skills and understanding for working in Childcare.

Delivery
The course includes work placements in a variety of work settings e.g. playgroups, day nurseries and schools. Assessment is carried out through assignments and continuous assessment.
All units are internally assessed. There is an emphasis on the development of skills, with help and support available on an individual basis.
Requirements
Ideally students should have some achievement at GCSE, grades D-G.
A willingness to learn and punctuality are amongst some of the attributes you will need to be successful on this course. Students will need a genuine interest in people and should demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm. Students need to be reliable, honest, trustworthy, well motivated and self reliant.
Students should be at least 16 years of age.
Progression
Students will be able to progress to BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development or Level 2 Health and Social Care or the Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship
Additional Information
Students on this course will be charged for a Criminal Records Bureau [CRB] check. The current cost is £44. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover the cost of a CRB check.
