Children’s Care, Learning and Development BTEC Certificate (Gorseinon)

Course Overview

Students will study a range of childcare related units which will extend their understanding of working in this sector. Study units on this course are:

  • Year 1
  • Unit 1 Positive relationships
  • Unit 2 Positive environments for CCLD
  • Unit 3 Promoting children’s development
  • Unit 4 Reflecting and developing practice for children aged 0-8
  • Unit 18 Supporting children’s literacy skills
  • Unit 27 Meeting additional requirements for CCLD

You will study a further six units in the second year of the course. This programme leads to a nationally recognised qualification. It introduces students to the occupational area, enabling them to develop knowledge, skills and understanding for working in childcare.

Delivery

The course includes compulsory work placements in a variety of work settings such as playgroups, day nurseries and schools. Assessment is carried out through assignments and observation of progress in the work placement.

 


 

Requirements

Students should have a minimum of four GCSE grades at grade C or a Distinction at Level 2 with 80% attendance and positive feedback relating to performance on placement.

A willingness to learn, reliability and professionalism are amongst some of the attributes you will need to be successful on this course. Students will need a genuine interest in working with children and people and demonstrate effective communication, commitment and enthusiasm.

Students need to be reliable, honest, trustworthy, well motivated and self reliant. Students should be at least 16 years of age.

Progression

Students will be able to progress to HE or enter the world of work. 

Additional Information

Students on this course will be charged for a Criminal Records Bureau [CRB] check. The current cost is £44. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover the cost of a CRB check.

Students will require  Polo shirts at a cost of £6 each to be worn for placement and an optional hooded sweatshirt for £13.

Students are also offered the opportunity to attend trips linked to their course of study. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover these costs.
