Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Gorseinon)

Course Overview

Students will study a range of childcare related units which will extend their understanding of working in this sector. Study units on this course are:

Year 1

Unit 1 Positive relationships
Unit 2 Positive environments for CCLD
Unit 3 Promoting children’s development
Unit 18 Supporting children’s literacy skills
Unit 21 and Unit 22 Combined science
Unit 25 Modern beliefs and religions
Unit 27 Meeting additional requirements for CCLD

You will study a further eight units in the second year of the course.

This programme leads to a nationally recognised qualification. It introduces students to the occupational area, enabling them to develop knowledge, skills and understanding for working in childcare.

Duration:Two years | Qualification: BTEC Diploma | Level: Level 3

Delivery

The course includes compulsory work placements in a variety of work settings eg playgroups, day nurseries and schools.

Assessment is carried out through assignments and observations of performance on placement. There is an emphasis on the development of the skills necessary for working in the childcare field and to enable students to progress into university.

Requirements

Ideally students should have 5 GCSE grades at grade C (with English language at grade C) or a Distinction at Level 2 with 80% attendance supported by positive placement feedback and reports.

A willingness to learn, reliability and professionalism are amongst some of the attributes you will need to be successful on this course. Students will need a genuine interest in working with children and people and should demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm.

Students need to be reliable, honest, trustworthy, well motivated and self reliant. Students should be at least 16 years of age.

Progression

Students will be able to progress to HE or enter the world of work in the childcare field.

Additional Information

Students on this course will be charged for a Criminal Records Bureau [CRB] check. The current cost is £44. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover the cost of a CRB check.

Students will require polo shirts at a cost of £6 each and an optional hooded sweatshirt at £13 to be worn for placement.

Students are also offered the opportunity to attend trips linked to their course of study. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover these costs.
