Digital Technology (Introduction to...) Certificate in Electronics

Course Overview

This programme of study has been designed to introduce students to the exciting world of digital technology using the very latest equipment including:

  • Internet protocol television
  • 3D television
  • Computer networks
  • Mobile communication technology

The student will study connectivity, basic system design and the basic electronic underpinning knowledge required to allow the functionality of digital technology equipment.

Duration:One year | Qualification: PEO | Level: Level 1

Delivery

The course is delivered in our sector leading workshops that are equipped with the very latest in digital technology equipment.

Students will engage in project work with an emphasis on learning through doing promoting a strong practical approach to the learning experience. Students are encouraged to engage with a work experience program that promotes continuing developing links with our industrial partners.

Assessment is both practical and theoretical with the development of a portfolio capturing key class work, project work and industrial experience. There is also an on line assessment at the end of the course.

Student development is carefully monitored with the use of our student response system which tracks the students performance throughout the period of study. The course is structured to be delivered over four days (9am to 5pm.)

Requirements

As this is a foundation program, each candidate will be interviewed and assessed by the teaching team to ascertain the suitability of the student to enter this program of study.

Progression

Successful students will have the opportunity to progress the the Level 2 course entitled Intermediate Digital Technology Technician.

Additional Information

Students will be required to be equipped for learning, which includes purchasing the following prior to the commencement of the course:

  • Paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Calculator
  • Ruler
  • Geometry set
  • Memory stick

There is also an annual trip to the science museum in London to explore the history of engineering. Work experience is a part of the learning program and is usually one week in March. For this and certain practical areas of the course students will have to purchase protective shoes i.e. steel toe cap shoes.
