Course Overview
This course will appeal to students who wish to develop ICT skills. It provides specialist work related qualifications in the IT sector, giving learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment in the IT industry. It consists of six modules all IT specific.
Modules studied include:

Communicating in the IT Industry - The aim of this unit is to enable learners to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information safely, securely and effectively with different audiences.

Working in the IT Industry - With the IT industry continuing to grow and computers becoming increasingly fundamental to how organisations function, employers are increasingly looking for people with specialised knowledge. This unit gives learners knowledge of the available job roles involving professional IT and the characteristics employers demand in the IT industry.

Computer Systems -This unit looks at the hardware and software of different computer system (PC, server etc). You will look at how a computer works and what each component does within the computer and at how users interact with the computer through a range of software. You will also look at security of computer systems.

Website Development - This unit introduces the internet with the emphasis on website design. As part of this learners will look at a range of different websites to study good and bad design features. They will then create a website of their own using a range of features from different software packages. This they will then upload to the internet.
- Event Driven Programming - This unit introduces the student to the use of a particular programming language. It covers the features of event driven programming and the event driven development environment and aims to develop the skills required to design, implement, test, document and review event driven programs.

Installing Software - This unit looks at how software is installed onto a computer using a variety of different methods (CD’s, web). This software will then need to be configured for the user. It will also look at upgrading of software and how registration of software products works.
- Computer Graphics - In this unit you will use a full range of graphic packages to create a range of graphic images using a full range of techniques. You will then learn how to export these images into other documents for use there.

Delivery
The course is classroom based and assessed through a series of set of assignments for each unit.
Requirements
Prospective students will need two GCSEs at grade C.
Progression
Students who have successfully completed the course can progress into employment or continue onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT.
