Course Overview
This course is particularly suitable for learners who wish to explore career opportunities, identify personal preferences and abilities and acquire new skills.
It is suitable for a diverse range of people and provides an excellent opportunity for the development of essential skills, together with confidence building activities and work experiences.
The course comprises a number of qualifications especially chosen to develop work skills. Three days are spent in college at Belgrave Road, Gorseinon and days four and five are devoted to work experience and community volunteering based initially at Tycoch.
The qualifications to be achieved at Level 1 are:
- NOCN Diploma in Progression
- Asdan Certificate in Community Volunteering
- OCR Enterprise
- Six Essential Skills
- Communication / Application of Number / IT
- Working With Others / Improving Own Learning

Delivery
The Diploma in Progression provides a flexible programme of study, giving learners the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of a range of skills necessary to enable progression to other qualifications or into the workplace.
Units cover a variety of topics eg: Heath and Safety, Budgeting and Money Management, Customer Service, Healthy Living, Personal Confidence and Self Awareness.
Enterprise enables learners to develop their own entrepreneurial skills by developing ideas and then running their own business.
Certificate in Community Volunteering gives learners the opportunity to experience the world of work by focusing on their local community. Volunteering can be completed as a group or individually.
Essential Skills are key to future work and career opportunities and provide progression either for further education or employment.
Delivery of the course is through a variety of teaching methods flexible enough to accommodate learners at differing levels with varied needs and interests.
Achievement of units is through a mixture of internal assessments as well as some external examinations. To achieve the full qualifications listed the learner must achieve all the assessment components for the units.
Requirements
Learners ideally would have E3 level qualifications and want a balance of college and work experiences.
Progression
On successful completion of this course students may progress to other qualifications or into the workplace.
