Accident Investigation

Course Overview: 

The course is suitable for people at all levels, in all sectors, who need training in the essentials of Health and Safety. The course is designed to introduce delegates to the importance of accident prevention, the accident investigation process and learning from failures in the workplace. Therefore, those with responsibility for Health and Safety would greatly benefit from attending this course.

On completion of the course delegates will understand the process and purpose of investigating accidents (incidents, cases of work related ill-health and other occurrences), the legal and organisational requirements for recording and reporting such incidents.

Entry Requirements: 

No previous health and safety knowledge is required

Modules include:

  • Principles of accident prevention (domino theory)
  • Benefits of accident investigation
  • Basic concepts of human factors
  • Accident reporting and depth of investigation
  • Accident investigation techniques
  • Stages of accident investigation (causal tree)
  • Practical exercises and case studies
  • Role and function of the investigating team

The course is delivered in the form of a taught session, group activities and discussions with delegates and tutors calling on previous experiences.
