
Certificate in Team Leading - NVQ Certificate
This qualification is designed for team leaders, to support the development of their skills in leading a team, making sure that the team’s work achieve organisational objectives, and contributing to planning, problem solving and decision making.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. Although the qualification can be offered to learners from the age of 16, in practice the majority of learners at this level would be expected to be over 18.
This qualification aims to give practicing and potential team leaders the foundation for their formal development in this role, by developing management skills thereby enabling learners to perform effectively.
On completion of this qualification you will know how to:
- Identify the skills and knowledge of the team leader, and the responsibilities for health and safety
- Explain how to organise and lead a team briefing to communicate with the team
- Lead a team in planning, reviewing and achieve the work to meet required objectives
- Identify, request, control and maximise resources to achieve work objectives
- Communicate and develop work relationships with the manager, team and those outside the team
- Induct a new team member and identify, plan and implement team training
- Identify the customer, provide the level of service and resolve customer issues
- Recognise and identify leadership skills in a team leader.
In order to gain the CMI Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading, candidates will need to complete any combination of units to a minimum of 15 credits.

Candidates who successfully complete this course may be interested in developing their learning further by undertaking one of the following:
- Level 3 Award in Management
- Level 3 Certificate in Management
Course delivery is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 50 and 65 hours of guided learning is expected.
Candidates will need to complete an assignment for each Unit of 1500 – 2000 words which will meet the indicative content requirements of the Unit to the standard required by the awarding body. In addition to the specific assessment criteria in each unit, the learner’s work must be:
- Accurate, current and authentic
- Relevant in depth and breadth and must also show the learner’s: clear grasp of concept; ability to link theory to practice; and ability to communicate clearly in the relevant discipline at the expected level for the qualification.
The learner’s work for Institute purposes is given either a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ result.
