
Learning Support - Year 2 - Foundation Degree
This course is offered in partnership with the University of Wales, Newport. The aim of this course is to deepen your understanding of your role as a Classroom/ Teaching Assistant or Education Support Officer within Secondary and Further Education.
All candidates need to be in a position as a support worker during the course.
The course is designed to match the requirements set out in the draft National Occupational Standards for Learning Support Practitioners, produced by the Sector Skills Council, Lifelong Learning UK [LLUK, 2007] and the Higher Level Teaching Assistant [HLTA] Standards [TDA 2007.]
The Foundation Degree in Learning Support provides you with an opportunity to achieve a qualification which combines work-based activities and academic study. It is designed to be completed in two years because it includes a large proportion of work-based, on the job learning, focussed on your experience and work role.
There are five modules to complete each year.
In year two the modules are:
- Learning support in institutional context
- Child and adolescent mental health
- Learners with specific learning difficulties
- Professional practice year 2
...plus one of the following:
- Understanding learning difficulties and disabilities
- Working with autistic spectrum disorders
Those who complete the Foundation degree will be able to go on to the BA (Hons) in PcET.
