Management - Award
The ILM Level 5 Award in Management is a qualification that has been specifically designed to give practising or aspiring middle managers a solid foundation in their formal development as a manager.
The Award is a concise qualification designed to develop basic middle management skills and knowledge.
Upon completion of this Award, learners will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of their organisation in relation to its purpose and its stakeholders
- Appreciate the role of the manager in achieving goals
- Explain the effect of communication and interpersonal relationships on managerial performance
- Identify how to critically assess own knowledge, skills and attributes to address development opportunities.
Furthermore, learners can choose from a wide range of subjects to choose suitable optional units to meet their specific needs and requirements.
There are no formal entry requirements, but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring middle managers with the opportunity to meet the assessment demands, and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.
The mandatory unit M4.01 ‘Understanding the management role’ (credit value of 4) examines organisational structure and function, the roles and responsibilities of middle managers and the effect of communication and interpersonal skills on managerial performance. The final element of the unit explores the evaluation of personal development opportunities.
Candidates will then need to choose optional units, which make up a total minimum credit value of 10 upon successful completion of associated assignments.
The optional units and their credit values are as follows:
M5.05 Leading innovation and change
M5.06 Becoming and effective leader
A learner studying for an ILM Level 5 Award in Management will be required to undertake a total of 45 hours guided learning as a minimum. Learners will be expected to undertake structured guided learning; examples include the following:
- Directed assignments
- Supported individual study or practice
- E-learning activities
Assessments will be work-based and are set and marked by the Institute. The assignments are designed to test candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the learning outcomes set by the Institute and must meet the minimum marks in order to succeed.
Upon successful completion of the ILM Level 5 Award in Management, delegates may wish to build on their qualification and work towards a Level 5 Certificate in Management or a Level 5 Diploma in Management.
These provide opportunity to extend the knowledge-base and skills of the learner.
