Busy times for Leigh
When not performing his duties at Gower College Swansea as Head of A Level Music, lecturer Leigh Phillips is one half of an award winning composition/ orchestration team.
Alongside Rebecca Thomas, Leigh - who has produced scores for animation, short features, documentaries, theatrical productions, television promos and feature films - has recently been heavily involved in orchestration, arranging and reconstruction work for various recording and concert projects.
Just this past year has seen Leigh and Rebecca collaborate with Lesley Garrett’s Musical Director Paul Bateman on arrangements for a large stadium gig in Vietnam featuring vocalist Duc Tuan, orchestration and score editing duties for the ‘Conan the Barbarian’ and ‘Conan the Destroyer’ complete-score recordings, arrangements for the ‘West End Stars in Concert’ Greek tour (with Ramin Karimloo) and orchestration work on the Sky/IMAX documentary film ‘The Bachelor King 3D’.
In addition to this, they have also recently undertaken a complete score reconstruction of Miklos Rozsa’s music from the 1951 MGM epic, ‘Quo Vadis’, which will begin recording in March with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus, and are working with ‘Cayman Music’, the publishers of several ska and reggae artists - including Bob Marley - on piano/vocal arrangements from the ‘back catalogue’ of this music.
“As well as all that, I obtained an MA (Distinction) in Composition for Film and Television from the London College of Music so it’s been an exceptionally busy time,” says Leigh.
