College celebrates ‘Mis Cwl Cymru’

Gower College Swansea

Students and staff at Gower College Swansea will celebrate Mis Cŵl Cymru in style this year.

On 1 March, pupils from Sketty Primary School Choir will join in the fun, when they attend a special concert at the Tycoch campus.

To celebrate the special occasion, Catering and Hospitality students are offering a ‘taste of Wales’ at the Vanilla Pod restaurant, where dishes will include lamb cawl, Glamorgan sausages, Welsh rarebit and Snowdon pudding with honey.

“We know everyone will get behind Mis Cŵl Cymru again this year and we always have a wonderful time,” says lecturer and Welsh Language Officer Rhian Williams. “What with competitions and trips, there will be lots of opportunities for everyone to get involved.”

On St David’s Day evening, Performing Arts students will take to the stage at Swansea Grand Theatre, alongside pupils from local primary and secondary schools, for a musical celebration of St David's Day. They will perform a musical number alongside Mike Doyle and a jazz dance piece.

“We are delighted to part of this event, celebrating Welsh talent and allowing both professional and aspiring performers the opportunity to work together,” says Learning Area Manager David Lloyd Jones.

Later in the month, Art and Design students from the Llwyn y Bryn campus will contribute to a community event at Sketty Methodist Church. They will exhibit fine art painting, print, ceramics and sculpture all responding to the title ‘Spring Into Action’.

The team at the Broadway Centre are also holding an open evening on 22 March with a special ‘Taliesin’ theme.
