History GCSE

Aspects of Welsh/ English and world history

Three modules will be studied:

  • Russia in transition 1914-1924
  • Germany in transition 1929-1947
  • America in development 1929-2000

Each will be exam based of one hour’s duration. There will also be an investigation on an historical issue that will be internally marked and 25% of the final grade can be achieved.

Course Delivery

The course offers a range of interesting themes relating to conflict and power in the twentieth century. Revolutions in Russia and the developing influence of Hitler and Nazism will be studied. Finally many events of significance that took place in America will be studied including the Wall Street crash, race, the Cold War and the policies of various Presidents including Kennedy, Clinton and Bush.

The course is classroom based and an exam is given for each of the three units. Also an historical investigation will be completed in class and internally marked.

 

Course Progression

A grade C or above is highly respected given the academic challenges. Many employers and educational institutions welcome this qualification. This achievement will also give students the opportunity study an A level in history.

Additional Information

Students are encouraged to join our day trips to historical places of interest that are organised every year.
