Door Supervisors - Award

Course Overview:

With the introduction of the Private Security Industry Act 2001, all door supervisors must now hold a licence to practice issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

Entry Requirements:

No formal qualifications are required to allow entry onto this course.

Course Delivery:

This qualification is designed for those who wish to work in the industry. Endorsed by the SIA and regulated by Ofqual, the qualification is awarded to learners who successfully complete four units:

  • Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Working as a Door Supervisor
  • Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
  • Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

The course takes learners through everything they need to know about the roles and responsibilities of a door supervisor, as well as how to deal with difficult, and sometimes even violent, situations. It will help learners to recognise when people are becoming aggressive, or things are getting heated and potentially dangerous, and equip them with the skills needed to calm things down before they get out of hand.

The course is delivered over four days.

Additional Information:

This qualification, which is worth four credits at Level 2, follows the SIA new specification and the unit structure reduces overlap between subject areas, making it easier for learners to gain qualifications for additional sectors (CCTV, Security Guarding etc) as they will only need to sit the additional units.

Generally the sessions are taught using presentation, group work and discussions. The Physical Intervention module covers low-level non restrictive techniques whereby a minimum level of fitness would be required.

“All the students who attended thoroughly enjoyed the course. It really makes a difference when you get on well and can relate to the tutor and his vast experience and knowledge from a previous career with the police force."  Paul Hancock, student
