Chinese heritage inspires Amy

Art and Design at Gower College Swansea

Gower College Swansea student Amy Yau has used her family heritage to inspire a body of work including sculpture, ceramics, illustration and performance photography.

Fine Art specialist Amy, who is on the Extended Diploma Art and Design course at the Llwyn y Bryn campus, has researched Chinese culture with a special focus on celebration dragons, traditional print and origami.

Her work forms part of the student exhibition running at the Grand Theatre Arts Wing until 28th June.

“Amy has matured into a confident young artist who demonstrates originality and vitality in her ideas and realisation,” says lecturer Katherine Baddeley. “We all wish her the very best of luck with her BA Combined Media degree which she starts in September.”

Before beginning university, Amy will spend the summer in Hong Kong where she will visit her family and continue to collect source material for future artworks.
