An ex-Gower College Swansea student has won a coveted job at a 3-Michelin starred restaurant after impressing none other than Alain Roux during his interview process.
Ashley Lewis, who studied Catering and Hospitality at Tycoch, will begin his job as a Commis Chef at the Waterside Inn in Berkshire at the end of July.
“At the end of my interview, Alain Roux called me into his office,” says Ashley. “He told me he could see that I was very enthusiastic about food and that I had a great passion for this industry. Then he offered me a job! I felt as though all my dreams had come true. This is such a fantastic opportunity, and I just can’t wait to get started.”
After leaving college, Ashley worked at the Lake Countryside Hotel in Llangammarch Wells before moving on to the Lower Slaughter Manor in Cheltenham. Looking to expand his career even further, he then distributed his CV to other restaurants and was stunned to receive a telephone call from Alain Roux, who had seen a copy and wanted to invite the young chef to a day’s trial at The Waterside Inn.
“Ashley was an award-winning Catering and Hospitality student and the teaching team here at Tycoch is not surprised in the least by his success since graduation,” says lecturer Rebecca Vickery. “For him to gain a position with such a prestigious restaurant and under the tutelage of a legendary chef is an amazing achievement. We wish him all the best!”
