Staff Wellbeing Day 2023

At the end of another very busy academic year, Gower College Swansea held its annual staff Wellbeing Day on 6 July.

The event has become a real highlight for teaching and support staff across all campuses, an opportunity to enjoy a range of taster sessions and activities with colleagues and friends.

This year’s packed itinerary included shamanic healing, cold water therapy, gardening, pickleball, reflexology and bingo.

Staff were also able to gain free advice on a range of issues such as legal matters, HRT, health and fitness, and the College’s Cycle to Work scheme.

“We’ve been delighted with the feedback we’ve received from our 2023 Wellbeing Day, which saw over 400 staff getting involved,” says Director of HR, Sarah King. "It was great to be able to offer such a diverse package of activities, from surfing to Pilates to cuddling with the Cariad pet therapy dogs – there really was something for everyone. I'd like to thank everyone who organised an activity including all our corporate and community partners who joined in and supported this event."

The Wellbeing Day comes at the end of another very successful year for health and wellbeing at Gower College Swansea.

In February, the College had its Gold Award in Corporate Health Standards reaccredited for a fourth consecutive year.

In March, it was awarded Menopause Friendly Accreditation status, in recognition of its ongoing work to raise awareness of the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, and the suite of support it has put in place for staff.

In May, the College has also secured a Stonewall Bronze award for leading LGBTQ+ inclusive employers.

And, within the last month, the College has been shortlisted for a National CIPD Award (Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative Public/Third Sector category) for its work on menopause support and awareness. Gower College Swansea is the only Welsh organisation to be shortlisted for this prestigious award.
